Flu Shot in Ontario: Free, Where to Get It and When

    Last reviewed 2026-09-24

Ontario's Universal Influenza Immunization Program makes the flu shot free for everyone who lives, works or goes to school in Ontario and is six months or older. The shots usually become available in the fall.

    Where to get it

    • Most pharmacies give the shot to people aged two and up. Book online or walk in.
    • Your family doctor or nurse practitioner.
    • Some public health units hold clinics, especially for young children.

    Options for seniors and children

    • Adults 65 and older can get a high-dose or adjuvanted vaccine made for older immune systems.
    • Children six months to under two years usually get their shot from a doctor or public health, not a pharmacy.

    When to get it

Get it as soon as it's offered in the fall. It takes about two weeks to start protecting you, and flu season usually peaks between December and February.
