OHIP+: Free Prescriptions for Ontario Children and Youth

    Last reviewed 2026-09-24

OHIP+ is the part of the Ontario Drug Benefit program that covers eligible prescription drugs for people 24 and under who have OHIP and are not covered by a private plan.

    Who qualifies

    • You're 24 or younger and have a valid Ontario health card.
    • You're not covered by a private drug plan, including a parent's workplace plan.
    • You're enrolled automatically. There's no form to fill out.

    What's covered

    • Drugs on the Ontario Drug Benefit formulary, including Limited Use drugs when you meet the criteria.
    • No deductible and no co-payment at the pharmacy.

    If you have private insurance

Your private plan pays first. OHIP+ doesn't fill gaps in private coverage. Once you turn 25 or lose private coverage, check whether the Trillium Drug Program or another ODB program can help.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need to apply for OHIP+?

No. Show your health card and prescription at any Ontario pharmacy.

What happens when I turn 25?

OHIP+ ends. You may qualify for Trillium if your drug costs are high compared to your income.
